FYM PREVIEW: OUTSIDE LANDS 2013 • GOLDEN GATE PARK • SAN FRANCISCO USA

This Friday FYM will be heading down to California delivering our third year of press coverage for San Francisco's Art, Music, Culture, Food and Beverage Festival -Outside Lands 2013! Hopefully you already purchased tickets, because this 3-day party is completely sold out. Below we have curated a Spotify playlist showcasing 30 bands we are looking forward to checking out this weekend.

OSL has outdone themselves this year with a group of headliners we can't miss. FYM caught Sir Paul McCartney earlier this summer in Seattle, and we were blown away by how hard this 71 year old can still rock! We are also looking forward to hearing new tunes from The Head and the Heart (who have a new album coming out October 15th).

Other goto great live acts such as Dawes, King Tuff, and Smith Westerns will also be on our must see list. Plus, NINE INCH NAILS are back touring and playing live this year! It should be a great weekend, and FYM will be sending out live tweets and instavids throughout. Cheers, FYM.

FYM PREVIEW: FREE ENERGY LIVE IN SEATTLE

Free Energy play The Crocodile this Thursday November 11th in Seattle Washington USA. The band ran into some recent good fortune, announcing they will be serving as opening act for Weezer during their Memories tour! For more info on those dates click HERE.

If you haven't heard Free Energy, check out their DFA debut, Stuck on Nothing. The buzzy self-titled track Free Energy, creates a kinetic force of vintage spirit.

Free Energy will play the second leg of this tour minus Foxy Shazam. Lead singer Eric Nally, stated on on his band's facebook, "I recently poked my eye out in the U.K. section of this tour, I had to go to the hospital, I can't see out of my right eye it really sucks, and it's really scary for me."

We hope wild-man Nally gets better soon! But forYoungModerns are still stoked for this Thursday! So charge up, and come down to The Crocodile 11.11.10 in Seattle Washington USA. This may be one of the last chances for Free Energy fans to see the band play in such an intimate venue!

Cheers,

FYM.

FYM PREVIEW: MONDO DRAG LIVE AT FIVEPOINTS ARTHOUSE SAN FRANCISCO CALIFORNIA USA!

Psychedelic powerhouse Mondo Drag (Alive Records) play San Francisco California USA, November 6th 2010. Their latest album New Rituals blends bluesy sonic landscapes with psychedelic (qc) thunder wizardry. It's a warm record full of green artistic inspiration from a talented group of friends. We like this band so much that FYM's Art Director Jesse Codling is jumping on a flight tomorrow to catch Mondo Drag in San Francisco (and flying back to Seattle to see them again on Tuesday!)

Just for you to get a hit of how crazy their live performances can be, check out our friends in Mondo Drag providing an anthem of Midwest scene pride rockin', I Love The Quad Cities with Andrew WK! FYM PREVIEW: FRAN HEALY ON TOUR WITH BRANDON FLOWERS LIVE IN SEATTLE!

Two solid pop songwriters/showmen have gone solo hitting the road together this fall. forYoungModerns will be caught in a crossfire of tremendous music, as Fran Healy and Brandon Flowers perform live Sunday November 14th,  2010 at the Showbox SODO in Seattle Washington, USA. Last checked tickets are running slim and should be purchased HERE.

Fran Healy (depicted above by FYM art director j. codling) has been a part of FYM's musical upbringing, as he was the irreproachable voice behind Travis. Last month Healy released his stellar solo effort, Wreckorder, with a little help from friends like Paul McCartney, and Necko Case. His unchained pop melodies are suspended through a sea of ambient sonic landscapes. The album is a gorgeous soundtrack for the Fall with tracks like Buttercups:

Healy rides out Brandon Flowers tour through November before headlining select dates across the East Coast in December! Go to his site for further touring updates!

Check back later this week for part two, as we go a bit further featuring the second half performing (BRANDON FLOWERS) on November 14th in Seattle. Regardless if you are a Travis or Killers fan (why not both really) these two will be creating an unforgettable evening that FYM refuses to miss!

Cheers,

forYoungModerns

FYM CURRENT OBSESSION: BEST COAST-PLAYING LIVE IN SAN FRANCISCO USA!

Best Coast have been on our radar for quite some time, and if you're in San Francisco this week you're in luck!  They will be playing a sold out show tonight at Cafe Du Nord for Aquarius Record's birthday.  If you didn't snag tickets for that show, you still have Tuesday at Great American Music Hall.

Conveniently enough they just released a new single/video for "Boyfriend" as they hit the road, touring in support of their top 40 album CRAZY FOR YOU. Rivers Cuomo has taken notice, and has teamed up with Bethany Cosentino for some possible new Weezer jams, which might make a new album relating to a character of Lost.  In the meantime check out this video for "Boyfriend" and put on your best quinceanera dress to dance along. FYM will see you Tuesday!

FYM PREVIEW: DR. DOG LIVE IN SEATTLE!

Philadelphia's very own easy riders Dr. Dog rock Seattle, a week from Friday! Kick off your Halloween weekend with stellar jams like Fools Life. The stylishly appropriate (for the season) video features creepy dime store monkey masked children, cruising the streets on classic bicycles. Fools Life showcases Dr. Dog's  refreshing sonic persona, paired with hiccuping vintage freak-outs.

Dr. Dog play Seattle 10.29.10 at the Showbox SoDo. Their warm musical watermarks can provide a great soundtrack while watching Planet of the Apes on psychedelics, or a perfect start to FYM's favorite weekend of the year, Cheers!

FYM PREVIEW: BROKEN SOCIAL SCENE, LIVE IN SEATTLE WASHINGTON, 10.15.10

The Canadian Music Collective Broken Social Scene play possibly the most gorgeous venue to appreciate live music in Seattle (The Paramount Theatre) this Friday October the 15th, 2010.

You can purchase tickets Here.

All a whole the BSS catalog provides beautifully baroque, sonic landscapes perfect for fall. Broken Social Scene's 2002 Masterpiece You Forgot It In People, has held a consistent spot in FYM's weekly record listening rotation, ever since we heard Anthems For A 17 Year Old Girl.

Needless to say we are stoked about seeing BSS live for the first time in such a luxurious venue! The groups latest solid a-la-carte showcase of Canadian indie talent, 2010's Forgiveness Rock Record was produced by John McEntire of Sea and Cake (who happen to be currently on tour with them). AND keep an eye out toward the end of the month as Broken Social Scene/Sea and Cake release a 7" split together. FYM will be on the scene this Friday in Seattle, so hit us up on twitter.

FYM PREVIEW: THE DRUMS • 10 4 10 • LIVE AT NEUMOS, SEATTLE WASHINGTON USA

To the center of the city in the night, we will be waiting for Brooklyn's Fashionably Authentic The DRUMS. Tomorrow evening these post-punk enthusiasts take stage: 10.04.10 Neumos Seattle Washington, USA doors open at 8PM.

Seemingly an unabashed ode to such sonic fusion as The Smiths, The Cure, and Joy Division, The Drums capture the essence of all three, supplying their own timestamp on a beautiful era of music. Hopefully The Drums fare as well live as they do on record! Hit us up on twitter tomorrow evening as we take in The Drums in Seattle!

Cheers,

FYM

FYM PREVIEW: BAND OF HORSES/ADMIRAL RADLEY AT THE GREEK THEATRE 9.24.10

While our Art Director Jesse Codling celebrates the big two-seven in Seattle, a 90 minute flight south to Berkeley the rest of us will be celebrating for him at Band of Horses and Admiral Radley. If there's one thing that FYM knows will be amazing, it's hearing one of the most epic songs of the past decade live: "The Funeral" by Band of Horses being heard in the best outdoor venue that the Bay Area has to offer at the Greek Theatre. Check out Ben Bridwell sans beard in this performance on Letterman.

Admiral Radley, who has been on our boy William Sellers' radar for a while now, is opening the evening and "I Heart California" is working it's best to get on our top 10 songs of the year right now. Follow along with the video to practice your sing-along when you catch them this Friday at the Greek Theatre. The show starts at 7pm with Darker My Love opening the whole gig.

FYM PREVIEW: LOCAL NATIVES, THE LOVE LANGUAGE AT THE SHOWBOX SEATTLE 9.24.10

FYM's Art Director could be celebrating his 27th (year of the rockstar) birthday- anywhere really. Las Vegas, Los Angeles were all nice choices, but instead FYM is stoked about the Local Natives with The Love Language, playing this Friday at the Showbox in Seattle Washington USA!

Airplanes is FYM's Publicist, Nick 'I fly way too much for my own good' Codling's, jetset jam. Check out this solid live version.

FYM also couldn't ask for a better night of sonic camaraderie. Forgive us, but we couldn't help but doing a show specific poster for The Love Language  completely in french (the language of love/took 4 years of it in college)

The Love Language compose floaty- daring-dream tunes: the perfect soundtrack for dusk til' dawn oceanside bonfires, making ghirardelli smores, while pondering smoking the rest of your stash.

KEXP Seattle's NPR recorded a great example of The Love Language hitting their prophetic shoe-gazing stride! Hit us up on TWITTER September 24, 2010 at 8PM down at the Showbox! The whole crew will be there celebrating!
