FYM REWIND: 18 AGAIN! (1988)
Looking for an awesomely bad 80's movie to watch this evening? Netflix Instant is now streaming the 1988 body-switching classic- 18 Again! staring Charlie Schlatter and George Burns.
(Plot) A terrible car accident involving 18 year-old David Watson (Shlatter), and his 81 year-old Grandfather Jack (Burns), leads the two into a spirit-swapping conundrum. As the grandson lays dormant (coma) unaware in grandpa's body, the plot quickly thickens as Burns take his new younger body out for a spin (hilarity ensues).
This campy 80's masterpiece features love interest- Jennifer Runyon (the blonde pictured above) possibly most well-known for her role as Dr. Peter Venkman's psychic test subject (say 8 o'clock) in Ghostbusters.
This was an interesting time in cinema as 18 Again! was one of 5 movies boasting a similar body-swapping storyline (Big, Vice Versa, Like Father Like Son, and Dream a Little Dream) all released right around the same time period. We suggest starting with this one, 18 Again! on Netflix Instant, with low expectations and a taste for B-Movie bliss, you might just enjoy yourself. Cheers, FYM.

FYM REWIND: THE WIZARD (1989) NOW AVAILABLE ON NETFLIX INSTANT STREAM!
As a young boy in the 80's, there was one child actor I found myself endlessly relating with, Fred Savage. He owned the late 80's into the early 90's with a string of hits, The Wonder Years, Little Monsters and The Princess Bride. Recently one for FYM's all-time favorite Savage movies, 1989's The Wizard, has become available via Netflix Instant Stream. View the high-definition film in it's entirety below:
The movie itself is about the journey of two brothers crossing the country by any means necessary. Corey Woods (Fred Savage) and his disenchanted brother Jimmy (The Wizard) encounter various gummy situations on the road to Caaaaaalifornia (as Jimmy Woods calls it) on their way to Video Armageddon (a gamer competition with a cash prize of $50,000). A young Jenny Lewis (now famed recording artist) joins the brothers posse, as they hustle money at arcades and diner's exploiting Jimmy Woods' talents as a video game savant.
While all this is happening, old brother Nick (Christian Slater) and their father are en route to find the runaway boys before a bounty hunter does. The campy storyline provided the film with an outlet to introduce The United States to Super Mario Bros 3 (which was kinda like a big deal back in the day!) and the infamous Power Glove (pictured above)!
This movie has a happy ending, and is a quintessential FYM REWIND champion! The Wizard is a nostalgic throwback we can't help but keep in our Netflix Instant Que. Enjoy!
Cheers, FYM

FYM REWIND: NETFLIX HIDDEN TREASURES
FYM REWIND: A celebration of movies (we watched repeatedly) that our parents taped on VHS during HBO free preview weekends in the late 80's through the early 90's. forYoungModerns since developed a taste for awesomely bad (but in a good way) campy classics. Most of these movies have long gone out of print or were never published on DVD. But our forgotten favorites have been revitalized with the advent of Netflix Instant Stream Movies!!
THE EXPERTS: A hip late 80's fashion mullet-clad John Travolta teams up with equally stylish Arye Gross as they play a pair of New York nightclub promoters transplanted (unknowingly) by the KGB in Communist Russia's version of the quintessential Leave It To Beaver 1950's America (an agent training camp for Russian spies to adapt to the American way of life).
Travolta and Gross (who think they are in small town Nebraska) expose a time-capsule of late 80's style showing the spies in-training how to be smooth. Classic 'edgy' dancing scenes, dated technology, steamy hairdos, and hot 80's ladies (Kelly Preston) make this campy espionage relic endlessly entertaining.
