FYM THEY LIVE: CELEBRATING OUR 3-YEAR ANNIVERSARY & 400TH POSTER

Today we celebrate the 3-year anniversary of forYoungModerns! FYM originated as a platform for three friends in three different cities to come together, and cover the best art, music, and culture on the West Coast. We decided to be a positive-based blog (covering only things we dig). We could have never imagined how much joy, love, respect, and life experiences we would receive from starting FYM.

Over the past 3 years we've seen 200+ live acts, and formed design relationships with some of our favorite bands. Pictured above is one of the coolest photos we've ever taken (Jonny Pierce of The Drums, Live at Neumos in 2010). Starting FYM has also led to incredible life changing opportunities, and a platform to create design work on our terms.

Jesse Codling would like to thank Nick Codling (his publicist and brother for life), + our Los Angeles connection Will Sellers (for coming on board at the beginning and being the best writer we've ever had).

Other shout outs go to the bands that have believed in us, and wanted design work from us (pictured above FYM on site for the Campfire OK When You Have Arrived Music Video Shoot). -Wayfarer, American Dust, Campfire OK, Pickwick, Theoretics, Mary Lambert,  RayLand Baxter, Shakin' Michael J, Zion-I, Kris Orlowski, James Whetzel, The Cellar Door, ZIIBRA & Neumos music venue in Seattle.

Above is our 400th design post for FYM. It's for one of our favorite bands in Seattle -Pickwick. We recently put together a tour design package for them involving 3 postcards, 1 tour poster, and 1 beer coaster. Check out their brilliant music video for Lady Luck -the first single off their new album Can't Talk Medicine below:

Lady Luck (the music video) is a stunning black and white visual accomplishment. It features a cinematic punchline at the end, making the song that much better, altering your perspective on the tunes narrative forever. Catch Pickwick on tour this summer!

FINAL THANKS:
I would like to thank my wife Emily (pictured above with YACHT) for supporting me throughout the development of this site. Each article comes with a 400x600 pixel piece of digital art. I spend a lot of time on my posters, which means less time with my boo. But even from the beginning, she pushed me to pursue my passion and dreams. I would also like to thank my parents Tom and Judy, for being my biggest fans. Here's to another wonderful year. Cheers, FYM. They Live!

FYM DESIGN: RECENT PROJECTS • SEATTLE

FYM has been keeping busy lately. We just wrapped up a series of five posters for Mary Lambert's upcoming North American tour dates. Lambert is finally getting the attention she is due,  ever since her & Macklemore's anthem Same Love changed the world for the better last year. We were also fortunate enough to create Mary's latest logo/t-shirt design. Check out her upcoming tour dates, and the logo via her official website HERE.

Speaking of Seattle Hip Hop...  We continue our design work with Theoretics (the brilliant 7-man live hip hop band). This time we made a teaser trailer for the group, promoting their upcoming performance at the Northwest's premiere music festival -Sasquatch 2013. The group was kind enough to let forYoungModerns sit in on one of their practices... we took that footage, spliced live performances, and added bold typography, BAM -watch the results above.

We also just wrapped up a poster  for our new friends The Cellar Door this past week. You will notice Mary Lambert and our buddies Wayfarer are also playing... really looking forward to this show. The Crocodile is always a fun place for a concert. Listen to The Cellar Door's new single off their upcoming EP Flightlessness HERE. Cheers, FYM.

FYM ON THE LIST: RAYLAND BAXTER • LIVE AT THE CROCODILE • SEATTLE USA

To sit alone on stage with hundreds of eyes peering at you is terribly exposing. It’s pure, unadulterated scrutiny. To do so unwaveringly, with charisma, and still pull off an unfaltering musical performance is exceedingly difficult. This is precisely what RayLand Baxter brought to the Crocodile last Friday.

RayLand drapes melodic and longing vocals over deftly fingerpicked guitar licks. Lilting wails hint at whisky laden nights gone awry with images of lingering ladies now no longer lovers. Rife with Southern sentiments, Baxter artfully weaves a tapestry of images into his songs which invoke at times, for me, heartache, longing and a romantic notion of what might have been.

RayLand has a way with words and phrasing that translates directly to the strings of his Creston and back again, a gift many a musician would kill for.  For me, “Mountain Song” was a highlight of the show for me in particular, as I’m fond of the baleful moaning that frames the eloquent verses. “Willy’s Song” also stirs something in me; perhaps it’s that persistent need to “move on” inherent in anyone who has ever had a bit of wanderlust in them.

I also want to quickly point out that this show was well into a grueling tour of sleepless nights on a loud bus. Not only did RayLand show up, he showed up in top form. If you haven’t listened to his music by now, you had better start, you’re missing out. Written By: 'cooL' John KeLLey

Reserve your copy of RayLand's split Daytrotter vinyl with Grace Potter and the Nocturnals HERE.

Catch RayLand at Bonnaroo and the Newport Folk Festival this year... or a town near you... He will continue to tour heavily in 2013. Stay up to date, and listen to jams off his debut album HERE.

Listen/Watch "Bad Things" above. It's one of our favorite jams by RayLand, and a tune you are certain to hear on the road this year (not included on "Feathers & Fishhooks").
