FYM ON THE LIST: MARY LAMBERT • CAMPFIRE OK • IVAN & ALYOSHA • MELODIC CARING PROJECT

Last Saturday, FYM was fortunate enough to be invited to attend a very special evening, set in the SODO gallery Piranha Shop. It was a night of marquee Seattle live music in support of the Melodic Caring Project in partnership with Starlight Children's Foundation Northwest and Seattle Living Room Shows. This intimate concert was live-streamed to children in hospital rooms (what a wonderful concept).

Mary Lambert is a rising star, poet, singer/songwriter and notably the vocalist on the most important single of 2012 Same Love (a marriage equality anthem). She started off the evening with a moving series of songs, showcasing her painfully honest lyrical perspectives and a voice that will make your heart tremble. She left us with goosebumps several times during her performance.

Lambert's music was well-paired with Seattle Rock Orchestra's Chandra Johnson on violin. Together they performed the full version of Same Love written by Mary (not just the hook on the Macklemore single) -It was simply the highlight of our night.

For those of you in the Seattle area, catch Mary Lambert live Saturday January 19th, at the Fremont Abbey Grand Hall. Following that, she leaves for her major city East Coast tour.

We are sad to say we missed Star Anna's performance that night. Listen to her wonderfully bittersweet  cut Alone in This Together above.

FYM did luckily catch Ivan & Alyosha live. After seeing their set, we have been obsessively listening to them on Spotify all week.

Ivan & Alyosha made instant fans of us that evening, with their sonic brand of soaring folk foot-stompery.

To understand what we are talking about, check out Running For Cover filmed live/released today. It's the first single from the band's new album All The Times We Had, set to release in February. See them live at their CD Release show -February 23rd with Kris Orlowski at the Showbox.

What can we say about frontman Mychal Cohen and the rest of Campfire OK... FYM has seen the band in a number of spaces this past 2012 (local venues like the Crocodile and Neumos, their Nordstrom Flagship surprise performance, and the Pyramid Brewery Winter Ale launch party). We love this band and their energy live. Campfire OK is a truly talented group of multi-intrumental masters.

Campfire OK treated the audience and the children watching in their hospital rooms, to intimate renditions of tunes off their yet to be released sophomore album When You Have Arrived. Our highlight of the band's set had to be their closing song Wishing You The Best (and the older lady next to us, that also knew all the handclap parts to the song).

FYM had a wonderful evening catching up with friends, and watching one of a kind performances from some of Seattle's best bands. Special thanks goes out to Mary Lambert for having us as her guests. Cheers FYM. #TheyLive
