On their latest release Plenty of Anything, Theoretics (a talented 7-piece crew of musicians) continue to capture the heart and spirit of Northwest Hip Hop. Listen to our new favorite jam Lights On, off the new EP below:



Plenty of Anything, showcases a variety of sound in six tracks. Slow-burning instrumental (late night) landscapes pair seamlessly with three rapid-fire jams (featuring dominant dual-emcee lyrical uprock).

Theoretics band member Birch Pereira gave FYM some insight behind the new release: The idea behind the EP, or at least the 3 vocal songs, was to show off the entertaining side to Theoretics and move away from the serious tone of our first album. I switched over to playing synth bass as well and naturally some more d&b elements came out and the emcees really got a kick out of writing to that fast tempo stuff. 

The two instrumentals "Bus Evlav" and "Harkon" came out of a project I've been doing where I've been creating new music on the computer by manipulating samples of our previously recorded material. Most of the time it's unrecognizable to the original source, but Bus Evlav is a remix of a song that we recorded on our instrumental side project Vunt Foom called Sub Valve Release. The Northwest seven-man (Hip Hop) battering ram, otherwise known as the THEORETICS have had a HUGE September!

Last Sunday, FYM specifically went to day two of Seattle's premiere music festival (Bumbershoot) just to see the Theoretics play live. It was a long overdue second live viewing for FYM (the first was our jaw-droping attendance when Theoretics opened for K-OS at a sold-out show at the Crocodile via Belltown).

For those of you not in the know... The Theoretics are a dominate full-band, 7-man—Seattle Hip Hop crew, who feature intelligent positive flow, funky melodic visions, paired with infectious talent and life-changing LIVE interaction.



Recently, Theoretics dropped their latest single/video GO. In mere weeks, the video has crossed 10,000+ views (officially 11,421). With good cause, GO—is an immediately likable, inspiring classic. Because of the honest sonic prowess emitting from Theoretics, the more we stay in the NW, the more we discover Hip Hop is alive and well on the West Coast.

FYM PREVIEW: SEATTLE HIP-HOP • THEORETICS, PREMIERE NEW MUSIC VIDEO -JEKYLL & HYDE

For those of you not in the know... The formidable Northwest Hip-Hop Crew THEORETICS, are playing a FREE live event at The Triple Door Musicquarium this Friday October 28th, 2011 from 9:30pm-12:00am. The culmination of the evening happens at 11pm when THEORETICS premiere their most highly anticipated Music Video, Jekyll & Hyde.


You may recall in September FYM featured an article on the group's brilliant fund-raising bid for their next music video -The THEORETICS Kickstarter campaign raised over $5,000 to support the production costs of their latest cinematic engagement. We were very pleased to see this crew surpass the goal, and cannot wait to watch what they have come up with visually to accompany one of the most original, dynamic, thought-provoking Hip-Hop jams FYM has ever heard. The video was filmed on location a few hours North of Seattle in Port Townsend Washington (originally a Victorian Seaport) known as the city of dreams. We've been to Port Townsend before, it is indeed a spooky area -to put things in perspective, any steampunk would love to retire in this community.
