FYM ON THE LIST: OUTSIDE LANDS • SAN FRANCISCO • DAY ONE • GOLDEN GATE PARK

Day one at San Francisco Outside Lands in Golden Gate Park boasted a solid line-up of sonic talent. It's the third year we have covered this event officially, and FYM really feels like it's a home away from home.

Band of Horses brought a little taste of the Pacific Northwest sound to San Francisco yesterday. Clouds of fragrant smoke rolled throughout the afternoon during their set, especially while performing Weed Party (off their debut Everything All The Time). British singer-songwriter Jessie Ware was up next. FYM was incredibly impressed with her powerhouse vocals, and electro street-wave sound. Check out her signature single Wildest Moments HERE (which also happens to be featured in a new Durex condoms commercial).

The National's sound could be summarized best by a fan we chatted with in the audience... "it's perfect music to go to sleep to".... whether you enjoy their sound or not, the band still delivers an excellent live show winning this writer over (even though our publicist is still not into them).

Wavves California stoner-punk/surf rock was awesome to see LIVE. The band is high on energy, and their new album Afraid of Heights (on Ghost Ramp Records) can be heard HERE.

Another perk of Outside Lands is its location. Golden Gate Park is a beautiful setting to host a major music festival. Local food, beer and wine vendors compliment the massive green landscape. Plus it's San Francisco, and the people are happy to be there, positive, and having a great time.

During The National's set we noticed several boxes on the main stage titled 'Air FX' with Paul McCartney's name on it. Which obviously meant the night was only going to get better!

Earlier this summer FYM never thought we would have had the chance to see Sir Paul McCartney live. We were lucky enough to see him in Seattle in July (when members of Nirvana came out to back him during his two encores). McCartney is simply the best live. Being able to see him twice this year is a blessing. His talent is untouchable, his music is timeless. Paul emitted pure joyous energy throughout his nearly three hour set of hits. If you ever get the opportunity, see Paul McCartney... there is no one else on the planet like him.

FYM PREVIEW: SUB POP • SILVER JUBILEE • CELEBRATING 25 YEARS • SEATTLE WA

This Saturday July 13th, forYoungModerns will be heading to the Seattle neighborhood of Goergetown along with every other music loving Seattleite to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Sub Pop records with their grandiose Silver Jubilee.



The event will feature a wide variety of top talent from the full catalog of bands who grace the Sub Pop label. You'll find the FYM crew definitely checking out Brothers of the Sonic Cloth (new music project by Tad Doyle); METZ (Canadian, grunge awesomeness); and Father John Misty (JCods definition of cool).

When not rockin out, you'll be sure to find us relaxing in the Elysian Beer Garden, getting some noms at a local food truck, or dropping some cash shopping at the Sub Pop Mega Mart, which features vinyl from a ton of Sub Pop bands, tees, hats, and all your Jubilee must-have memorabilia. This semi-permanent pop-up shop is located at 6003 12th Ave S.

Best part, this event is FREE!! A $5 suggested donation will go to local organizations: 90.3FM KEXP, Northwest Harvest and the Northwest Parkinson’s Foundation. Cheers to Sub Pop! Thank you for the 25 years of great music! Here's to many more years to come!

BONUS: Today the Nordstrom Flagship hosted legendary guitarist J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr. for a fierce lunchtime set on their main floor.

It was amazing to see so many fans come out and take over a better part of the Flagship's shoe department! Let's hope Nordstrom and Sub Pop continue this rad partnership! Cheers, FYM.

FYM PREVIEW: ERASURE LIVE IN SEATTLE USA

The 80's English snythpop icons ERASURE are back in 2011 with a new album (Tomorrow's World) and a full-scale 27 date North American Tour. A week from today, 10.06.11 -Will be your last chance in 2011 to catch Andy Bell & Vince Clark in the States, as they close out their summer tour at The Moore Theatre in Seattle Washington, USA.



Singles like Always, Chains of Love, A Little Respect and continued chart-topping success in the UK during the 90's -have aided in ERASURE selling over 25 million records to date.



Above, When I Start To (Break It All Down) the first single off their new record -exhibits just how solid of a vocal showman Andy Bell still is. FYM continues to maintain a nostalgic listening love affair with ERASURE  -their spirited 80's anthems still shimmer with contemporary bliss. It's progressive easy listening kinetic pop music, and we can't wait to see them at the historic Moore Theatre next Thursday in Seattle USA.
